About This Experience

Ninety minutes takes you from the old centre to Retiro and back. You ride through the Barrio de las Letras and down Calle de las Huertas to the Prado and the Jerónimos church, spend about 40 minutes inside the park, and return past the Puerta de Alcalá, Cibeles and Puerta del Sol. The park itself began — Retiro began as the private grounds of a 17th-century royal retreat, opened in part to the public by Charles III in 1767, and passed to the city only after 1868.

The route takes in the Palacio de Cristal and the Fountain of the Fallen Angel, along with the formal gardens laid out for the Spanish kings. Riding is on the park's wide, level paths, so the pace stays comfortable and the guide can talk rather than shepherd.

The operator starts from Calle de Santiago in the old centre rather than at a park gate, so the first minutes are a short street transfer before you reach Retiro. Guiding is bilingual Spanish and English by default, with other languages available on request when you book.
