Iconic Retiro Park Segway Tour

About This Experience

This is the Retiro route almost every first-time Segway rider in Madrid ends up on, and the numbers explain why: it has drawn more reviews than any other Segway tour in the city. It starts at the operator's shop on Avenida de Menéndez Pelayo, a few steps from the park's eastern gates, with a briefing and a short practice loop before anyone rides out.

Inside the park the hour is built around eight stops rather than one long ride. You pass the Antigua Casa de Fieras, Madrid's first zoo and now an exhibition space, then the Cecilio Rodríguez gardens where the resident peacocks live. The Fountain of the Fallen Angel comes next — Ricardo Bellver's 1877 bronze of Lucifer, installed here in 1885 and one of very few public monuments anywhere to depict the devil.

The second half is the postcard half: the Rosaleda rose garden, the Palacio de Cristal, a cast-iron and glass pavilion designed by Ricardo Velázquez Bosco for the 1887 Philippines Exposition, then the Estanque Grande with the colonnade of the Alfonso XII monument above it, and the formal Parterre on the way back. The guide takes photographs at each stop and shares them afterwards, which matters more than it sounds — you cannot safely ride a Segway and hold a phone.

What Travelers Say

Rated 4.8/5 by 949 verified GetYourGuide travelers.

I was lucky enough to have a private tour with Alan. This was my first time riding a Segway, but it was such a fun experience! The tour started with a tutorial on how to ride the Segway, and Alan explained everything very clearly and patiently, especially the most important part: how to safely get on and off the Segway. It was great exploring the park and visiting the main highlights that I otherwise might have missed or not seen. Alan also gave me some great recommendations for other places to visit in Madrid, which was a really nice bonus. Highly recommended!

We absolutely loved the segway tour with Alan our guide. He greeted us with a huge smile which carried on throughout the tour. He explained how to use the segways very well & made sure that we were ok before we went on the tour around Retiro park. He looked out for us on the whole trip giving us tips on how to manage some of the terrain. He was very knowledgeable & showed us lots of interesting things. Unfortunately some of the things were closed but he showed us pictures on his phone so we would have a reference to what he was talking about. He gave us a reference point to his favourite restaurant & other places to visit in Madrid whilst we were there. We would definently recommend this tour to others.

It was an amazing experience. loved every bit of it. Thank you for organising this. Segway holds a tiny bit of Madrid for us for sure. 🙏😄

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the Retiro Park Segway tour?

One hour of riding, plus the training session before it. Arrive 15 minutes early — the operator allows a 10-minute grace period and after that you are moved to a later tour if a space exists.

What is the minimum age for this Retiro Segway tour?

Nine. Riders aged 9 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult. There is also a minimum height of 130 cm and a maximum weight of 120 kg (264 lb), and the tour is not suitable during pregnancy.

Do I need to have ridden a Segway before?

No. Training is included and happens at the shop before you enter the park. Guides spend most of it on getting on and off, which is where first-timers wobble. Retiro's wide, level paths are the easiest surface in Madrid to learn on.

Is the tour available in English?

Yes, in English and Spanish daily. French departures run Wednesday to Sunday only.

What happens to the photos?

The guide takes them at each stop and shares them after the tour at no extra cost. It is included rather than an upsell.
