How to Read the Rankings

Four questions, in the order that actually narrows the field.

  1. Park or City?

This decides almost everything else. Retiro is the calm, car-free option and the one to learn on. The historic centre has the monuments and the traffic.

  2. How Long?

An hour is a sampler, 1.5 hours reaches past the obvious, two hours is a survey, three hours is the whole city — and tiring.

  3. Shared or Private?

In Madrid the private premium is unusually small. If your group is two or more and anyone is nervous, private is worth the few dollars.

  4. Check the Age Limit

Nine on Madrid Segway's routes, ten everywhere else. That single year decides which operators you can book at all.

The Rankings

The Best Madrid Segway Tours, by What You Want From the Day

There is no single best route — there is a best route per visitor, and seven categories that cover almost everyone.

Seventeen Segway tours are bookable in Madrid, run by five operators, priced from $32 to $69. Every price, rating and review count on this page is the operator’s live figure on GetYourGuide, and they move — a tour that is the cheapest today may not be next month.

There is no single best Madrid Segway tour. There is a best one per visitor, so this page ranks by what you want from the day.

Best overall: Iconic Retiro Park Segway Tour — $39

The Iconic Retiro loop has drawn 949 reviews at 4.8/5, which is more than double the next Segway tour in the city and more than every historic-centre route combined. That volume is the argument. An hour, eight monument stops, training, helmet, insurance and photographs included, and the easiest riding surface in Madrid.

It is also the only route that takes riders from nine years old, alongside the same operator’s downtown and river tours.

Best value: City Center Guided Segway Tour — $33

The lowest-priced guided centre tour in Madrid, and it holds 4.8/5 across 184 reviews — a rating most operators would want at twice the money. Ópera, Plaza Mayor, the Almudena and the Royal Palace, with the Templo de Debod on the 1.5-hour option. It also includes a bottle of water and free luggage storage while you ride, which is worth real money on a hotel-checkout day.

Cheapest: Madrid by Night — $32

The only Segway tour in Madrid that runs after dark, and the lowest starting price in the city. Its 4.9/5 comes from a smaller sample — 24 reviews — so treat it as promising rather than proven. Night riding is genuinely easier in the centre, because a Segway is barred from Madrid’s pavements and the roads carry less traffic once the deliveries stop.

Best private: Private Segway tour, Retiro Park and Centro Histórico — $40

717 reviews at 4.8/5, a private guide by default, your choice of one to three hours, and hourly departures from 10:00 to 20:00. It is also the only Madrid tour that sells the park and the old city together as a private ride. At a dollar above the shared Retiro loop, the private premium here is close to nonexistent — see the private tours page for all four.

Longest scheduled route: All Madrid Guided Segway Tour — $52, 3 hours

Three hours, and no other scheduled group departure in Madrid runs that long — the private Retiro and Centro Histórico tour can be booked to three hours, but only as a private ride. Barrio de las Letras, the CaixaForum, Retiro Park, the Paseo del Prado, Plaza Mayor, the Almudena, the Royal Palace and the Templo de Debod. Most of that route runs through the UNESCO-listed Landscape of Light, inscribed in July 2021. Book it if you have ridden a Segway before; three hours standing is not a first-timer’s tour.

Most distinctive: Private Off-Road Casa de Campo — $69

The only off-road Segway tour in Madrid, riding unsurfaced tracks inside Casa de Campo on all-terrain Segway X2s. It is also the most expensive. Casa de Campo is 1,722 hectares — the largest urban park in Spain, roughly five times Central Park — and was a royal hunting estate until 1931, which is why so much of it is still scrub rather than lawn.

Best for a second visit: Madrid River Segway Tour — $45

Madrid Río is the route tourists do not book, and it rides better than the centre. A seven-kilometre linear park along the Manzanares, opened in 2011 on top of the buried M-30 motorway, designed from the start around continuous walking and cycling routes. 4.96/5, though from only 32 reviews. Covered in full on the Madrid Río and Casa de Campo page.

What the ratings do and do not tell you

Six Madrid Segway tours rate 4.9 or better, and every one of them has fewer than 35 reviews. That is not evidence they are better than the 4.8 with 949; it is evidence that small samples sit high. Treat any rating under about 50 reviews as provisional.

Prices move too. The figures here were read from GetYourGuide’s live listings and every tour on this site carries free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start, so booking early costs nothing.

Still narrowing it down? The duration comparison covers how much you see in one, 1.5 and two hours, and the format comparison covers whether a Segway is the right choice at all. Or check availability for your dates.

"I was lucky enough to have a private tour with Alan. This was my first time riding a Segway, but it was such a fun experience! The tour started with a tutorial on how to ride the Segway, and Alan explained everything very clearly and patiently, especially the most important part: how to safely get on and off the Segway. It was great exploring the park and visiting the main highlights that I otherwise might have missed or not seen. Alan also gave me some great recommendations for other places to visit in Madrid, which was a really nice bonus. Highly recommended!"

Susana Portugal

"We absolutely loved the segway tour with Alan our guide. He greeted us with a huge smile which carried on throughout the tour. He explained how to use the segways very well & made sure that we were ok before we went on the tour around Retiro park. He looked out for us on the whole trip giving us tips on how to manage some of the terrain. He was very knowledgeable & showed us lots of interesting things. Unfortunately some of the things were closed but he showed us pictures on his phone so we would have a reference to what he was talking about. He gave us a reference point to his favourite restaurant & other places to visit in Madrid whilst we were there. We would definently recommend this tour to others."
